Challenging the crisis with co-op homes

May 12, 2017

The Trust is expanding its housing network. The network brings together co-operatively-managed, affordable, and ecologically-sensitive homes - with the aim of providing all the social, economic, and personal benefits of various housing forms - co-operative, private ownership, private rentals, leasing, hostels, social housing, squatting, and supported housing. The network will enable each member to utilise their membership as an asset, and move among, in, and out of the Network and its homes - whilst retaining the benefit of both social trust, and financial and labour investments accrued.

The first trial, involving 15 buildings across England is currently underway - providing rental accommodation well below market levels, but with a high standard of provision, a depth of tenant-involvement, and a baseline from which to learn and develop mechanisms for developing the Network.
